Title:
Impact of Office
Design on Employees Performance
Abstract
Architecture has a psychological
effect upon those occupants who are accommodated in any architectural space. When
designing an office space, the question then becomes, what kind of effect do
they experience. And what about the qualities and consequential effects the
architecture needs to be conveyed to the employees.
Additionally, looking at an office
space might indicate ”successful” (or ”unsuccessful”) impressions. The question
is: why it elicits such a human response. For example, is it the way the
architect used color or spatial placement of features from one another, the
acoustical design, Or even the lighting.
This research introduces a study of
the notion of architectural psychology through the review of the effect of
office spaces on employees’ behavior showing the elements that affect the
occupants’ feelings of uncomfort or distressed in order to avoid it. The
research shows that surroundings can and do have quite a significant effect on
the way employees feel and how they are likely to respond. Surroundings could
be physical environment (layout & furnishing, air quality, light, color ...
etc) or social environment (management, job design, home life ... etc).
The research surveys analytical study
for two office building projects. Each project is analyzed describing the
factors that affect behavior and experiences of the occupants positively and
negatively.
Concluding remarks and conclusions
are given to direct more attention toward office design, as an Important topic
required to improve productivity.
